Eucalyptus. Maple. Sycamore. Not that this is competitive or that we’re contestants, but…I think I overheard Rosa, Alejandra, and Juniper talking about going on the road? Door-to-door? Wait…What?!?
2010-2011 School Year next weekDue Friday, Feb. 5
Re-enrollment forms went home last week. Turns out some of you may not have received them until this week? They were passed out, old style, at school to your child, in an envelope, with your name on it. Please, make sure you’ve received this all-important packet from your child, the bus driver, or car poolers. Forms are due Friday, Feb. 5. Questions? We’ve got answers.
Tuition Assistance? “TA”
SBMS families anticipating a need for Tuition Assistance for 2010-2011 can see and gather information, and an application, online at TADS; www.tads.com. Those applying for TA need to contact HOS, Jim Fitzpatrick, directly. An independent non-profit, TADS takes information from applicant families, determines the need of each family, and makes a recommendation to the school. The process is completely confidential. All Tuition Assistance applications must be completed prior to March 1, 2010.
SBMS tuition assistance is awarded based upon the TADS criteria, with additional consideration given to the family’s tenure and participation in the school. SBMS’s TA goal has always been to retain families and assist them to remain in the school. TA is not available to families new to the school. Another SBMS criteria is that TA not exceed 50%, with most TA in the range of 10%-20% of annual tuition. This year nearly $100,000 in TA has been awarded to SBMS families.
SBMS (Maria Montessori: Super Star…Wait…What?!?)
“100 Words” On the road: Jacksonville, FL
February 12- 15, 2010
Here’s how 100 words floats throughout the world…just when you think you’ve got this figured out, something comes along and makes it better:
Last week SBMS hosted a fundraising / auction meeting at which HOS shared his draft of 100 Words needed for an advertising listing at SB Family Life. HOS opened up the draft to discussion, and an animated critique ensued. HOS was happy for the suggestions, and was especially impressed the following morning when 100 Words were emailed by Cody Busch-Weiss’ (Willow Class) mom and dad, Audrey and Jon: “We got to thinking, and the 100 words weren’t nearly enough to express all of our feelings about how great the school is…but they’re a start.”
HOS realized, “These are some mighty fine 100 Words, right here, and quickly set them off to SBFL, but then realized, “Wait…What?!? These 100 Words are so fine they should be shared, so HOS sent then off to the Google Group of 450 Montessori Administrators from around-the-world. Of course, HOS added a bit of a challenge; “Here’s SBMS’s 100 Words, what have you got?!?”
So, the best 100 Words will be acknowledged in the Hyatt bar in JAX on Friday, Feb. 12. In the meantime HOS at Post Oak School in Houston, TX, John Long, gathered up SBMS’s 100 Words and crammed them into his blog, where you can now see Jon and Audrey’s 100 Words:

Here’s the original 100 Words HOS read to the meeting (you can see why HOS was impressed by Jon and Audrey’s efforts):
The best school in Santa Barbara? Is Santa Barbara Montessori School the best school for your child, for your family? Is it the best school in Santa Barbara; is there a best school in Santa Barbara? How does a family decide what school is best for their child? The best teachers? The best campus? There’s other Montessori schools in Santa Barbara, how would a family know which is best for their child? Maybe the best idea would be to visit and decide for yourself? Call or drop by, but it’s probably best to call first…7421 Mirano Drive, Goleta, CA 93117 685-7600 sbmontessori.com
How about Jon and Audrey’s 100 Words at HOS’s blog? Wait…What; he has a blog?:

Trevor Eissler “Montessori Madness”
$20 @ Amazon or $10 at SBMS
Make arrangements to be able to attend this lively discussion with author and fellow Montessori parent, Trevor Eissler. Montessori Madness, is available for sale at school. Trudy has them at reception. Mr. Eissler is a pilot, flight instructor, and at one point was a frustrated Montessori parent who couldn’t figure out why his children were so happy and he was so confused.
Facebook Question / SurveyNobody? Nothing, yet?
Are you one of the 150+ friends of Santa Barbara Montessori at FB? If not have you wondered, Why not?
More importantly, however, SBMS is currently advertising at FB with two separate ads; one is for Priority Enrollment Tours, and the other for Santa Barbara Montessori School. Have you seen the ads?
According to the FB data, more than 16,000+ ‘impressions’ have been ‘posted’ featuring the ads, SBMS is curious if you have seen the ads. Yes? No? If you’re a FB member it would be great to know either way so that SBMS can determine if this is, in fact, an effective way to reach Santa Barbara area families.
Advertising? SBMS? Yes!
Yes, SBMS is advertising throughout the community with print and digital versions of our “Maria Montessori is a Rock Star” campaign. Why? 30 new children, ages 2 to 3.5 need to come ashore at SBMS by September 30. Which means they had better enroll by April 1. 30 by 4/1. Look for it. Tell a friend. SBMS Parent Ambassadors can earn miles and rewards. Seriously.
