SBMS Annual Giving Campaign = 38% Wait - What?

Participation? 100% is always the expectation/goal.

100% means every family, not every fourth family!

Cindi’s Toddlers (Eucalyptus): 0%

Juniper’s (Sycamore): 32%

Margaret’s (Willow): 38%

Jane and Craig’s (Redwood): 50%

Frances’ (Sequoia): 52%

Allwyn’s (Magnolia): 54%

Thankful appreciations to those already contributing tax-deductible donations to this year’s all-important campaign. We are, however, well below our 100% level of participation. 100% is vital. Of course, the funds are essential, and it’s wildly important for all SBMSers to join together in the support of the school’s programs. Encouragingly, more than two dozen alumni have contributed to this year’s total. Here WE go.

Wednesday, Jan. 23, 9:00 - 10:00am RSVP

Tour (escorted) of Elementary Classes

Join AMI-credentialed HOS, Jim Fitzpatrick, for a brief walk-through of SBMS’s AMI-accredited Lower and Elementary classes. There is nothing quite like these classrooms. Anywhere. Interested families will include those with Primary-aged children ready to Fly Up in June, and those with Lower Elementary children also ready to Fly in June.

What is Montessori, Elementary!

Thursday, Jan 24 6:00pm

Discussion and presentation for Primary families, especially for those with children Flying Up in June, and 3rd Year Lower Elementary families, too. Experience SBMS’s Elementary program as a supplement / extension / compliment / continuation of the Primary experience. Also part of the discussion, how the Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary resemble and differ from each other.

SBMS Security & Goleta Union School District Update

SBMS HOS and GUSD Superintendent Bill Banning met Wednesday to discuss a review of district-wide policy and procedures, which he then made public at that evening’s GUSD Board meeting.

All GUSD schools, including SBMS, have been directed to check every aspect of the existing security equipment; doors, locks, gates. Any equipment not operational will be repaired or installed ASAP. SBMS’s doors and equipment are all operational, although one entry point, on the southeastern side of SBMS’s campus will have a new gate installed, which will then be locked during the school day.

All SBMS classrooms have doors designed for “lock-down” situations-the doors can be locked from the inside of the classroom, preventing entry from the outside. The new policy recommendation from GUSD is a district-wide policy that all classroom doors will be kept locked at all times. Doors may be propped open, but the door handles will always be locked-when the door itself is closed, teachers and staff, and children, will know the door is locked to outside access.

Additionally, all access to the school’s campus must begin with check-in at the school office. SBMS visitors, including you, must check-in at the office and obtain permission, complete with a lanyard and visitor pass, to be able to move about the campus. All access to the campus must be through the main entrance outside the office. Visitors on campus without a visitor’s pass will be directed to the office.

Questions or concerns regarding campus security or procedures can be directed to HOS Jim Fitzpatrick, cell: 896-6597; office: 685-7600, or email, jim@sbmontessori.com

Alumni Appreciation Day

High schoolers recently graduated from SBMS visited this afternoon for, amongst other things, freshly baked brownies and a rousing game of Capture the Flag, played with current SBMSers. Ali Milam and Kyler Tanowitz successfully outmaneuvered and dodged opponents as they carried their respective flags back to their countrymen’s cheers. Nothing quite like it!

Re-Enrollment Packets home today…

Area independent schools are busily hosting events and spreading the word regarding the 2013-2014 school year. SBMS is concentrating on in-house events this year, with other tours and visit type events upcoming.

www.sbindependentschools.com is the groups’s website, where SBMS can still proclaim its unique claim of exclusivity-the only AMI accredited Montessori school in the community. Please, note, Re-Enrollment forms and required deposit are due at school, Friday, February 1. Questions might be answered by the forms, or contact HOS for further information.

BTW: Free tickets to the Auction Extravaganza!
