Their older siblings, Lindsey and John Henry, are both in the Sequoia Class. Welcomes to the Shafers, and the Powers families! Shafer family contact info is available from the office. TEDx MidAtlantic - Watch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcgtI_bC4sY

This is interesting from the perspective of one who has participated in a TEDx event with the clearly stated direction that no particular philosophy or ideology could be ‘sold’ to the audience. Thus, when yours truly made his pitch to the American Rivera’s TEDx organizers my approach was indirect-“The Binomial Cube-Key to the Universe” was an ‘indirect’ presentation of Montessori’s ideology. Whereas, this presentation by Anna Lee is straight up; “Montessori good! Other ways, not so good!” Maybe it was her calm and gentle demeanor that affected the MidAtlantic TEDx organizers?

Wall Street Journal - Read

This WSJ posting came around again today in conversation, and it’s as relevant today as it was when originally posted.

Valentine’s Day Dance (children, only!)

Thursday, Feb. 14 1:00-2:00pm

All SBMS children are invited to our Annual Valentine’s Day Dance. Most of the children will recognize the music and dance opportunities from The Lorax, and there will likely be a group electric slide opportunity, too! Be mine.

Presidents' Holiday

No School Friday, Feb. 15; No School Monday, Feb. 18

Re-Enrollment forms were due LAST WEEK!

If you’ve not returned your forms it means your child is not listed on the class lists for 2013-2014.

SBMS Annual Giving Campaign = 71% 9% increase!

Cindi’s Toddlers (Eucalyptus): 33%

Juniper’s (Sycamore): 65%

Margaret’s (Willow): 88%

Jane and Craig’s (Red Oak): 69%

Frances’ (Sequoia): 73%

Allwyn’s (Magnolia): 93%

It turns out the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) average Giving Campaign participant level is 68%. SBMSers aren’t average, are they? We’ve reached average, and…Wait. What. SBMS is NOT average. No way. No shape. No form. Not average. Giddy up!

Yakumo Academy (145!) Visitors

Friday, March 1

(Regular school day schedule despite what SBMS’s calendar indicates)

145+ Japanese junior high students will be visiting Santa Barbara during March as part of a cultural outreach program. Yakumo Academy’s teachers and administrators visited SBMS in the fall and were so impressed with the campus and our chicken coops that they’ve decided to bring their students on Friday, March 1. Origami will be in the house.

Parent Conference Day

Monday, March 11 - No School

ADM will be available for children during their family’s conference. On the school calendar, this Conference Day will allow teachers the opportunity to share observations and provide “progress of development” for each family scheduled for a conference. RSVPs for schedule will be available by Monday, Feb. 11.

OnLine Auction!

Montessori Madmen

May 3 at Coral Casino

Not May 10th as SBMS Calendar indicates

Online Auction details available now. The gears begin to turn. Cogs engage. Slowly we turn, and then we begin to whirr…hold on! We’re gaining traction; ‘purchase,’ as some say, ‘momentum’ say others.
